This past Saturday, members of the Colette’s Children’s Home staff attended the 17th Annual Ingram Micro Charity Golf Classic as one of six recipient charities in Orange County.  Ingram Micro presented us, and each of the other organizations, with a check for $25,000, which is the highest amount ever distributed through this golf tournament.  As the amounts were kept a surprise until the checks were presented at the tournament luncheon, we were overwhelmed and unprepared for such a donation. We are so grateful and honored by this gift, because when combined with our matching grant sources, it will yield about $100,000 to support the operations and supportive services of our shelters.  This is enough to fully fund one of our shelters for about six months!  Ingram Micro has been a long time supporter of the work we do here, and we are eternally thankful for their support.

On February 20, Boy Scout Troop #316 led by Eagle Scout Project leader David Abraham devoted a full day of service at one of the Huntington Beach shelter sites. David planned his Eagle Scout Project to create shelving surrounding the interior of one of our storage garages. Not only did this build leadership skills within David and the rest of his Boy Scout Troop, it filled a huge need at Colette’s for more organized and streamlined storage. Upon completing this project, David said, “Ultimately, I am so blessed to have had the chance to change children’s lives.” Colette’s equally feels blessed by the dedication and hard work of David and Troop 316!

Thanks Troop #316!

We are so proud to announce the results of our most recent fundraising event at Tsunami Sushi which was held on Monday, March 29th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. So here goes....

We blew our projected number out of the water by raising a total of $18,343 between sponsors, entry tickets, general donations, and raffle ticket sales.  We had over 300 guests in attendance with plenty of sushi and teppan for everyone.

Take a quick moment to check out the highlights on this short video courtesy of HB Cool.

The local real estate community has shown tremendous generosity and support and we are truly grateful to be partnering with professionals who understand the importance of having a place to call home.  Over 50 companies and individual sponsored the event and many more sent in monetary donations in lieu of attending.

Thank you to all of you who supported the homeless women and children we serve through this event! Check out our photos from the event taken courtesy of FINE magazine's John Winfield.

Colette’s Children’s Home will be hosting its first annual Every Child Deserves a Chance Benefit Fundraiser on March 29, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. from 6:00 p.m. at Tsunami Sushi in Huntington Beach, CA.  We are expecting over 300 guests.  The afternoon will feature sushi and appetizers, networking, raffle prizes, and a $500 cash drawing.  All the funds raised will be used to provide shelter for the homeless women and children we serve in the 8 shelters owned and operated by Colette’s Children’s Home.

Stuart Thomas of Remax Select One, one of the event’s Title Sponsors weighs in about the reasons for his support by saying, “I was shocked to learn about 16,000 homeless kids in Orange County.  As soon as I heard that statistic, I knew we needed to do something.  The way our entire community has rallied around this cause is amazing.  Colette’s Children’s Home is doing so many good things for the homeless kids here in Orange County.”

This event is projected to raise $15,000 through sponsorships, entry tickets, and raffle tickets. Fundraisers like this are especially successful because for every dollar Colette’s Children’s Home receives in private funding and individual contributions, it has the ability to match that dollar with an additional three to four dollars through a matching grant program.

The support given from the real estate and affiliate community has been truly amazing.  Every Child Deserves a Chance has received an outpouring of over 40 corporate and individual sponsors who are committed to cause of ending homelessness in our community.  It is through their support that this event has become a success.  All of our sponsors, committed volunteers, and the community members supporting this event are empowering Colette’s Children’s Home to serve some of the most needy and vulnerable members of our community: homeless mothers and their children. For more information on this event, please contact Danielle Lang at (714)596-1380 or at dlang@healinghomelessness.org.

Spending Christmas in a shelter is not the most comfortable scenario, especially for a child. Each Christmas, our staff and the community that supports CCH comes together to make the holiday special for the mothers and children we serve.

Our annual Christmas party is held at First Christian Church of Huntington Beach, and this year we had about 100 women and over 200 children attend. Each child received a gift from Santa Claus that night. The toys were all purchased and wrapped by individuals in the community who wanted to make a difference in the life of a child during this holiday season.

CCH had many dedicate volunteers assisting with set-up, crafts, and toy distribution. We also received an outpouring of food donations from several local restaurants. BJ’s Restaurant in Huntington Beach not only donated a large portion of the meal, but sent an entire team of volunteers to help serve it. Thank you to everyone who made this celebration so special for our moms and kids!

During the week of Thanksgiving, Collette's Children's Home (CCH) residents celebrated a traditional Thanksgiving meal due to the generosity of many donors and volunteers.  At one shelter, 50 women and children were served meals prepared by volunteers from First Christian Church of Huntington Beach, led by Women’s Ministries Pastor Amber Turner. At another shelter, 40 women and children were served by the Act of Grace service group, led by Paul Orloff. A variety of activities were planned for the children, including cookie decorating, family pictures, and entertainment from Silly Sally’s.

CCH has continued to receive sentiments of gratitude from all of the women and children who were in attendance. One mother frantically searched for Pastor Amber, as she wanted to be sure to convey her heartfelt thanks to her and the women from First Christian Church before the volunteers left. According to this resident, she was “deeply grateful for all the work that went into serving one of the nicest Thanksgiving meals” that she and her daughter had in years.

During this season of thankfulness, CCH staff and residents are deeply appreciative of all the support from ours supporters and sponsors throughout the community. Without all of the support of all the gracious donors and volunteers, this special occasion would not have been possible.

Colette’s Children’s Home (CCH) held its second annual fundraising gala in celebration of its 11th Year Anniversary on Friday, November 20th at the Hyatt in Irvine. This event successfully raised approximately $50,000 toward direct services for the women and children residing at CCH.  Featured as the keynote speaker was Orange County Sherriff Sandra Hutchens, who spoke candidly about how her personal and professional background is closely intertwined with the important work that CCH carries out to help women and children. Also featured as speakers were two CCH graduates, Emmy and Laura, who spoke in depth about the impact that graduating from CCH has directly had on their lives as well as the lives of their children.

Serving as Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Pastor Bruce Templeton of First Christian Church of Huntington Beach. Dr. Stan Bosch gave the opening invocation, and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher led the Pledge of Allegiance. Auctioneer Mike Grumet presided over the auction at the conclusion of the evening. Other notable guests included:  Huntington Beach City Council members Joe Carchio and Devin Dwyer; Fountain Valley Mayor Larry Crandall; Fullerton Mayer Pro Tem Pam Keller; Tustin Councilmember Deborah Gavello, and; Professor Mario Mainero.

The success of CCH’s event would not have been possible without the commitment and efforts of the event sponsors, event planning committee, in-kind contributors, $1,000 raffle sponsors, live and silent auction donors. Below is a list of those who we owe our deepest gratitude for support of our 11th Anniversary Event.
