It has been brought to the attention of our staff that an individual in the Huntington Beach area is approaching select neighborhoods and soliciting monetary donations on behalf of Colette's Children's Home.

We would like to make it clear that we have authorized NO one to engage in any door-to-door solicitations and have not been contacted by any individual or organization that has asked us to be a beneficiary of this type of fundraising.

Please call the local police department of the city in which you reside if you feel you are being fraudulently solicited for a donation.

If you would like to make a donation to Colette's Children's Home, we advise you to mail your donation, call our offices directly at (714) 596-1380 or donate securely on our website.

Any questions or comments regarding this can be directed to Colette's Children's Home's Executive Director, William O'Connell.  He can be reached at (714) 596-1380 or by email at coletteschildren@aol.com.

Summer is slowly coming to an end, and many of us are preparing for the back to school rush of purchasing backpacks, supplies, new shoes, and new clothing for our school-age children.  As you are out shopping for these items, please remember the kids at Colette’s Children’s Home.  Many of them will be back at school with limited supplies and worn out shoes and clothing.  Help us give them something new this school year by picking up a gift card for back to school supplies and dropping it off at our offices.  We respectfully suggest gift card amounts in the $10 to $20 range. The smile on a child’s face when we hand him/her a gift card to Target, Wal-Mart, Payless Shoes, etc. lights up our entire office. Thank you, in advance, for your support!  Our drop off hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at:

17301 Beach Blvd. Suite 23
Huntington Beach, CA 92647

Please contact Deby Wolford, our Program Manager, with any questions at (714) 596-1380 or dwolford@healinghomelessness.org.

Take a look at the photograph below.  This is an image of an empty dirt lot located adjacent to one of our shelters in the city of Placentia, CA. Colette’s Children’s Home is pleased to announce that this dirt lot as the site of our brand new playground, which will be built on one day, on October 30, 2010.  We are partnering with KaBOOM! and Pacific Dental, who are providing us the materials, funding, and many of the volunteers for this project.  Pacific Dental will also be bringing a mobile dental clinic to give the women, children, and neighboring residents free dental care the day of the build.

The census tract in this area is 84% low income, and there are few activities for the children in our shelters and the children in the neighborhood to participate in.  This playground will improve the entire residential community, and give everyone a safe place to play.  If you are interested in  volunteering your time on our Build Day, October 30,2010, please contact Janice Huerta at (714) 596-1380 or jhuerta@healinghomelessness.org to learn more about how you can help!

This past Saturday, members of the Colette’s Children’s Home staff attended the 17th Annual Ingram Micro Charity Golf Classic as one of six recipient charities in Orange County.  Ingram Micro presented us, and each of the other organizations, with a check for $25,000, which is the highest amount ever distributed through this golf tournament.  As the amounts were kept a surprise until the checks were presented at the tournament luncheon, we were overwhelmed and unprepared for such a donation. We are so grateful and honored by this gift, because when combined with our matching grant sources, it will yield about $100,000 to support the operations and supportive services of our shelters.  This is enough to fully fund one of our shelters for about six months!  Ingram Micro has been a long time supporter of the work we do here, and we are eternally thankful for their support.

On February 20, Boy Scout Troop #316 led by Eagle Scout Project leader David Abraham devoted a full day of service at one of the Huntington Beach shelter sites. David planned his Eagle Scout Project to create shelving surrounding the interior of one of our storage garages. Not only did this build leadership skills within David and the rest of his Boy Scout Troop, it filled a huge need at Colette’s for more organized and streamlined storage. Upon completing this project, David said, “Ultimately, I am so blessed to have had the chance to change children’s lives.” Colette’s equally feels blessed by the dedication and hard work of David and Troop 316!

Thanks Troop #316!
